This is National Child Passenger Safety Week. In recognition of this important informational and safety observance, the Hawaii Fire Department will conduct islandwide Child Passenger Safety Clinics at various Fire Stations throughout the island.

The “drive-through” clinics will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the following fire stations: Central, Pahoa, Pahala, Kailua, Waikoloa and Waimea.

“These particular stations have been selected based on their geographic location, accessibility and drive-through apparatus floor space,” said HFD Battalion Chief Lance Uchida. “The goal is to provide a safe and educational venue highlighting our department’s injury prevention efforts.

“It is the program’s intent to have families leave the clinics better educated and safer than how they arrived. Free replacement child seats may be offered to families whose seats have been deemed damaged, recalled or of improper size.”

Certified senior CPS technicians will be at each site to coordinate inspection clinic activities. CPS technician students will also be on site to complete their hands-on and clinical portion of their training. Certified HFD CPS technicians interested in helping at any one of the Saturday clinics can contact Uchida at luchida@co.hawaii.hi.us or 961-8319.
